Tengu Kamishibai (Picture Card Theatre ) In 2003 we turned our first tengu musical into a kamishibai. Traditionally kamishibai in Japan are 12 to 16 cards long, each card approximately 10 by 14 inches, with the narration for each card written on the back of the previous card. Link for more info on kamishibai here. Our kamishibai began postcard sized. Later we also made some copies of the traditional Japanese size, as well as one set the size of postage stamps (!) and, going to the other extreme, one set on the back of 3 by 6 foot tatami mats (that, of course, we call tatami-shibai!) Finally, we put out the one page, bilingual version that you can see here. (or 3.5 mb pdf here.) This is handy because it can be read as a single sheet, or you can cut it apart and make your own little set. In 2007, as part of our International Tengu Art Project, we began to get the story translated into other languages. So far we have collected 18 versions, all available below.
